D.R.A.S.T.I.C. is a program focused on peer motor-driven education and treatment around youth substance abuse, with a target age range of 12-17 years. This is the predominant age range for licit substance abuse such as binge drinking and chroming (pot-smoking and use of speed and club drugs), and risk taking behavior by young people with complex needs. The Program D.R.A.S.T.I.C. is an acronym thought up by young people for Drama, Rhythm, Art, Self-Therapy, Inspired, Creation. DRASTIC will work with young people to develop their strengths and skills through an Arts & Activity Based Program.
The program aims to enhance individual client capacity and improve their outcomes which will contribute to a reduction in the immediate and longer term personal and social impacts of substance misuse.
This is achieved through activities which build resiliency, develop life skills and coping strategies through experiential learning, improve physical and mental health, improve family functioning, increase social connectedness and meaningful participation, reduce risk-taking behaviour, and introduce relapse prevention skills.
The development of these skills will support their subsequent transition to independent living or achieving other independent goals.
The D.R.A.S.T.I.C. Program runs weekly from 10 am to 1pm, for 8 weeks with a maximum of 12 clients per programme Clients are required to wear fully covered footwear at all times. Lunch is provided.
The D.R.A.S.T.I.C. Program takes place at "Expressive Ground". Clients will need to make their own transportation arrangements to and from the venue.
